Cutting hair as a punishment?

If I were a basketball coach I'm sure I could think of a better punishment for my players rather than cutting their hair to humiliate them. I don't see how this helps better the team or the player..which should be a coaches main goal. Why not make him run lines or stay after and shoot and run drills? This could not only be called a punishment but a way for the player to still get better. Instead the coach decides that cutting his hair will serve as a better punishment? hmmmm....
